"It doesn't show" said the cashier about my shattered jaw and ankle after she asked about my wrist brace and I told her it was a military injury and then she asked if I had other injuries while I was in the service.
\n
\nI think I blinked like an owl...and said managed to say "lots of wounds are invisible, like PTSD" She looked surprised at that notion.
\n
\n"No Ma'am ...it doesn't show, but I am still f*ed up...sorry.'"
\n
\nI fled, grateful I had been collecting my bag when she said it.
\n
\nGeeezes...how many times have I heard that???
\n
\nIt doesn't show.....but what would it look like if it did?
\n
\nJay Herron...you have come the closest of anyone to depicting it for us MST survivors. Hugs buddy! And to all the rest, military and civilian who deal with invisible wounds.
P.s. I wish there was a "feeling triggered" emoji.
